Built for Loose Powder, Not Just Cosmetics
A cream jar only has to keep air out; a powder jar also has to control how the product leaves the container:
-
Dispensing fitment
A sifter disc, rotating shaker top, or fine-mesh insert is matched to the formula. Loose face powder needs a different hole pattern from dry shampoo or talc.
-
Liner and seal
PE film, EPE foam, or PP-lined pads sit between the rim and lid. Thickness and material are matched to the jar and filling process.
-
Powder behavior
Talc and starch-based powders sift freely with a standard pad, while mica-heavy mineral powders can pick up humidity and compact. Flag the base powder so the liner and insert are matched to it, not just the jar.
A cream jar's flat gasket does nothing for a sifter or shaker top; see how that build differs on aluminum cream jars.

MOQ, Tooling & Lead Times
There is no fixed MOQ. Quantity is confirmed once the tin, decoration, and sample route are reviewed against your order size.
A custom sifter hole pattern needs its own tooling, quoted after DOLYPACK reviews the pattern and jar. Specifying an existing sifter insert already on file skips that step. Sample and production timing follow the same review, so no generic lead time applies until the drawing and artwork are confirmed.
Request a Quote with your target capacity and sifting behavior to get that review started.
Sizes, Caps & Configurations
The relevant range for powder formats is the small-to-mid portion of DOLYPACK's 5 ml–6,000 ml aluminum catalog, with cap diameters between Ø17.5 mm and 89 mm. Smaller diameters suit a fine sifter disc, while larger ones suit a shaker top for body powder.
Jar body diameter and height are confirmed per drawing once capacity and cap size are set. The table below shows how capacity, cap, and fitment typically pair.
| Powder Format | Capacity Range | Cap Diameter | Insert / Lid Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loose face or mineral powder | Small end of the 5 ml–6,000 ml range | Smaller diameters within Ø17.5–89 mm | Fine sifter disc + screw lid |
| Body/talc powder, dry shampoo | Mid-range capacities | Larger diameters within Ø17.5–89 mm | Shaker-top insert + screw lid |
| Pressed or compact powder | Small capacities | Smaller diameters within Ø17.5–89 mm | Slip lid, no sifter |

Lid & Sifter Options
-
Closure options
Screw lids, slip lids, and shaker tops with a sifter disc are available.
-
Finish options
Matte, glossy, frosted, and anodized finishes can be combined with the selected closure.
-
Fit requirements
A sifter-ready screw lid still needs the correct cap diameter. See the fit options for screw-lid jars.
Applications
Loose face powder, body and talc powder, dry shampoo, and baby powder formats all share the same core build — body, insert, seal, lid — just tuned to how the product flows. See how aluminum performs across the wider cosmetics packaging range, including dry-shampoo formats.

Custom Branding
-
Embossing
Bold shapes reproduce more cleanly than fine detail. Embossing on aluminum is quoted per drawing based on metal gauge and pattern depth.
-
Other decoration
Printing, laser marking, and custom finishes are available. A custom embossed lid is quoted after artwork review.

Aluminum vs. Plastic for Powder Packaging
Aluminum’s rigid wall and metal-to-metal seal keep moisture out at the seam better than a snap-fit plastic shaker lid, which is exactly where powder clumping starts.
That is the trade-off behind choosing metal over a cheaper plastic shaker. See the fuller aluminum vs. plastic packaging comparison.
