Low-Profile Flat Tins for Balms, Salves & Solid Cosmetics

round tin box with pink exterior, gold interior, and floral lid design

A flat tin trades depth for diameter: the body is wide and shallow instead of tall and narrow, so the lid opens onto more surface area relative to fill volume. This geometry suits products meant to be scooped, swiped, or pressed rather than poured:

  • Firm lip balm
  • Solid perfume
  • Salves
  • Small cosmetic samples and other low-fill-depth solids

DOLYPACK's flat tins with lids are aluminum with a 0.4 mm wall, supplied as a matched pair rather than sold as separate body and lid components.

Buyers sourcing flat tins for sale in bulk typically fall into two groups: brands filling a shallow product that would sit lost inside a deeper jar, and packaging teams building a sample or gift set where lid real estate for branding matters more than capacity.

Sizes & Specs

Two capacities are currently stocked, both aluminum with a 0.4 mm wall and a matched flat lid:

SKU Capacity Diameter × height Lid Case pack Product Image
DO-AQ05 60 ml 63 × 23 mm Flat lid with handle Confirmed per order
DO-AQ05 60 ml flat tin with handle lid
DO-AQ04 130 ml 82 × 34 mm Flat lid Confirmed per order
DO-AQ04 130 ml flat tin

Confirm usable fill level, internal dimensions, and tare weight on the item drawing before locking a formula or insert to either SKU.

If a project needs something larger than 130 ml or a diameter outside this range, send the target diameter, height, and quantity. DOLYPACK can check whether it falls under existing tooling or needs structural development before being treated as a catalog size.

Matched Lids & Closures

Both flat tin lids are supplied fitted to their own body, not sourced as a generic-size cover. The rim is rolled with no sharp edge, and the lid seats with a slip fit rather than a threaded or crimped closure.

This is suitable for repeat opening, but not for a liquid-tight seal without a filled-pack test. If a project needs more depth than the flat format allows while keeping a similar slip-fit lid mechanism, 1 oz metal tins cover a deeper capacity with the same closure logic.

Customization for Flat Tins

The flat lid's broad, uninterrupted face supports several decoration options:

  • Decoration

Labels, full-color printing, laser marking, and embossed or debossed patterns.

  • Embossing limits

The shallow body and metal gauge limit how far a pattern can run before it distorts the sidewall. Bold shapes and moderate relief reproduce more reliably than fine, deep detail.

  • Artwork and finishes

Send vector artwork (AI, EPS, or vector PDF) so the tooling team can confirm pattern depth. Available finishes include matte, glossy, frosted, metallic effect, lacquering, and anodizing on the aluminum body.

The same decoration logic applies to other shallow-fill formats such as hair wax tins, where lid area is also the main branding surface.

Why DOLYPACK

Why DOLYPACK for Flat Tins

DOLYPACK runs an in-house tooling team, which is what turns a non-standard diameter or a deeper emboss pattern into a quoting question rather than a hard no. Over 10+ years in metal packaging, the company has supplied 441+ references to more than 80 countries, covering both stock tins ordered as-is and fully custom development from a blank sheet.

Ordering & Quoting

DOLYPACK does not run flat tins from a fixed case-pack price list. Tin size, decoration method, artwork, tooling, and order quantity are reviewed together before MOQ and production timing are confirmed.

That review determines whether a project runs on existing tooling or needs a new die. A sample is part of the process; request one alongside the review so print, fit, and finish are checked before a full production run is committed.
